How to Shorten a Spotify Link (Free, With Tracking)

Turn a long open.spotify.com URL into sptfy.co/your-song in seconds. Covers ?si= share parameters, spotify: URIs, intl links, and what a short link can track.

Updated

To shorten a Spotify link, paste it at sptfy.co, choose a slug such as sptfy.co/your-song, and confirm your email; the short link sends fans to the same track, album or playlist and counts every click. It takes about a minute and it is free. Unlike a general-purpose shortener, the result is built for Spotify: it carries your artwork as its preview, records the click, and can fire your remarketing pixels on the way through.

Why Spotify links are so long

Every Spotify link follows the same pattern: https://open.spotify.com/track/<22-character id>?si=<share token>. The content type comes first (track, album, artist, playlist, show or episode), then the 22-character ID Spotify assigns to that item, then, if you copied it from the Share menu, a ?si= share token. The token is how Spotify attributes the share; it doesn't change where the link goes. Fans don't need it to reach the song, but it roughly doubles the length of an already unreadable URL.

There are a few other forms you will run into. Links copied in some regions carry a language prefix, such as open.spotify.com/intl-de/track/…. Embed code uses open.spotify.com/embed/track/…. The desktop app can copy a URI instead of a URL, spotify:track:4cOdK2wGLETKBW3PvgPWqT, which won't open at all from a browser or a bio field. All of them point at the same 22-character ID, and none of them is something you would read out on a podcast or print on a poster.

Step by step: shorten a Spotify link with Sptfy

  1. Copy the link from Spotify. In the app, tap the three dots on a track, album, playlist or profile, then Share, then Copy link. On desktop you can also copy the address bar.
  2. Paste it at sptfy.co. Sptfy reads the title, artist and artwork from Spotify and shows a preview, plus a few slug suggestions built from the track and artist name.
  3. Pick a suggestion or type your own slug. Your link will read sptfy.co/your-slug. Slugs are 2 to 48 characters of lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, and they are permanent, so read the custom short link guide before you settle on one.
  4. Enter your email address, tick the terms box, and click "Create link & send activation email". The slug is reserved for you for 24 hours.
  5. Open the email and click the activation link. Your short link goes live and you land in the dashboard, logged in. If you were already logged in when you pasted, there is no email step: the link is live the moment you create it.

What Sptfy does to the URL

Whatever form you pasted, Sptfy normalises it to one clean open.spotify.com address before saving. Share tokens are dropped, intl-xx/ and embed/ segments are removed, and spotify: URIs are converted. When a fan clicks, they land on the same item Spotify's own link would have taken them to. The six supported content types are tracks, albums, artists, playlists, shows (podcasts) and episodes.

Two things Sptfy will not do. It rejects anything that isn't a Spotify URL, so an Apple Music or YouTube link gets an error, not a short link. And if the Spotify app hands you a spotify.link address, which is Spotify's own shortener, Sptfy may not be able to resolve it; open that link in a browser first and copy the open.spotify.com URL it lands on.

Generic shortener vs a Spotify-specific one

A general-purpose shortener will happily shorten a Spotify URL, and if all you want is fewer characters, that works. The differences show up after the click:

  • Readable slug. Sptfy suggests slugs from the track and artist name, so you get sptfy.co/your-song rather than a random string. Everyone can pick a custom slug, including people making their first link.
  • Preview. Because Sptfy knows it is Spotify content, the link carries your cover art, title and artist as its preview when it is pasted into a chat or a post. With tracking on, a fan who clicks sees a page with your artwork for a fraction of a second, 2.5 seconds at most, before Spotify opens. With tracking off, it is a direct redirect.
  • Analytics. Every click is counted: visits, approximate visitors, country and city, device, referer and more, kept for about 90 days. See what Spotify link analytics show.
  • Pixels. Paste your Meta, TikTok, Google Analytics 4, Google Ads remarketing or Snap Pixel IDs once in Settings and every click of every link fires them. Most smart-link services put pixels behind a paid plan; as far as we know, Sptfy is the only free one that doesn't. The smart link guide explains what happens between the click and Spotify.

After it's live: edit, retarget, delete

Your dashboard lists every link with its click count, a per-link analytics view and a QR code. You can change the destination to any other Spotify URL, and the title and artwork refresh, which is how a single sptfy.co/yourname-latest link can follow you from release to release. You can't rename a slug; make a new link instead. Each link has a "Disable Tracking" switch if you want one particular link to be a plain redirect. And you can delete any link at any time.

If the link is going somewhere fans tap it from a phone, such as an Instagram or TikTok profile, the Instagram bio guide covers what to expect from in-app browsers and how to tell platforms apart in your numbers. For the limits and the fine print, the FAQ has the short answers.

FAQ

Can I shorten a Spotify link without an account?

You need an email address but no password. Paste the link, pick a slug, enter your email and agree to the terms. The link is reserved for 24 hours and goes live when you click the activation email, which also logs you in.

Does the short link keep the ?si= share parameter?

No. Sptfy drops the ?si= token and saves one clean open.spotify.com URL. Fans still land on exactly the same track, album, artist, playlist, show or episode.

Can I paste a spotify:track: URI?

Yes. URIs copied from the desktop app, intl-xx/ regional links and embed/ links are all accepted and converted to the normal open.spotify.com address before the link is saved.

Can I change the slug later?

No. Slugs are permanent. You can change where a link points, to any other Spotify URL, and you can delete it, but to get a different slug you create a new link.

Can I shorten an Apple Music or YouTube link?

No. Sptfy accepts Spotify URLs only and rejects everything else. It is not a multi-store landing page; if you need one link that covers every platform, you need a different tool.
